Currency:

The currency used in the United States is the U.S. dollar. All major credit cards are widely accepted in the United States. Visit http://www.xe.com/ for current exchange rates.

Banks:

Normal banking hours are Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding public holidays. 24 hour Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) can be found throughout the city and campus. The ATMs on campus are located on the east side of the Memorial Union complex and at The Silo.

Climate:

Davis enjoys a very enviable climate of brilliant warm summers and mild winters. Generally in September, days are warm and nights are cool. Weather in September can be variable, with a possibility of rain.

Local California time (Pacific Daylight Time) during September is UTC/GMT -7 hours.

Travel and health insurance:

The conference does not provide insurance to attendees. We strongly recommend that you take out insurance policies to cover medical and travel expenses.

Transportation:

Getting around Davis is fairly easy. The fastest and most common way to get around Davis is by riding a bike, given that the campus is located right next to downtown Davis. There are bike rental locations on and off campus. Public bus transportation and car rentals are also available. Detailed information regarding transportation can be found here.

Tipping:

While tipping is not mandatory in most of the United States, it is expected in many circumstances for service, especially in almost all sit-down restaurants. Additional information can be found here.

Eating out:

The UC Davis Conference Center is located in at the southeast edge of campus, within walking distance of downtown Davis. Downtown Davis has an array of restaurants and cafes that offer varied menus, prices, and décor. Details can be found here.
